So close and yet so far . . .

It could be anything really.  From balancing the bills, a lottery ticket’s last scratch, the scent of our lover or our dreams of vacation.  We seek shelter in our religion to save us from politics and mask our fear with 420 ways to escape our circumstances. And still we find ourselves right here … on the edge of our destiny … eyes forward with a mind full of memories.

We perceive our situation as limited by the smoke screen or the glass (ceiling) and we are left with nothing to do but mull over the mental noise. Should I? Could I? Why oh why?

Sometimes of course, a door opens and we take the chance to dash out because we believe a better vista is around the next turn. Though chances are we wind up in the same place with different scenery, and wonder why again we have missed the mark. Because it is not the darkness that stops us from seeing, it is the belief that our happiness is somehow determined by our ability to bridge the gap between what we want and what we have. When perhaps it is as simple as wanting to be exactly where we are right now.
